SATA/SAS capable controller RSTe pass-through mode in Linux

$

Hi,

I recently purchased a S1400FP server board along with the upgrade key C600 (RKSATA8R5) for enabling all of the 8 SATA/SAS ports in SATA mode.

However it is stated in the monthly specification update that RSTe is not supportable in linux operating systems, it did not mention that the pass-through mode did not work.

Can someone confirm that this is the case and provide information on whether this is planned to be fixed or not fixed?

I have 4 disks in a OS controlled software raid 5 (by mdadm) and want to use the pass-through functionality of the SATA/SAS controller. THe problem that I am seeing is the following:

* Every second time I reboot, only 2 of the 4 drives are readable and mdadm fails to reassemble the array

* All other times I reboot, 3 of 4 drives are detectable, and the array is assembled in a degraded mode.

* It is always the same hard drives that fail. The hard drives are in working order (bad blocks and smart tests are performed)

* When I move all drives to the AHCI sata ports all drives are detected and the raid assembles perfectly, always (i rebooted 10 times).

* I have seen similar problems on other server boards here:

S2600CO & pass-through disks

* My hard drives in the raid array:

Hard drive HDD1 is the one who is never detected by the SATA/SAS controller, and HDD2 is detected every second time I reboot. When I loog into the OS, HDD2 is always readable, but HDD1 is never readable. They all work on the AHCI capable SATA controllers without problems.

I am aware that this could be a HDD firmware related issue, but I would like to make sure it is not a known problem with the SATA/SAS controller pass-through in S1400FP first.

I appreciate all the help and tips I can get to fix this issue as I really want to use the SATA/SAS controller in SATA pass-through mode.

Thank you

Cannot See Drives

I have an Intel S2600G (Z/L) board and it has no operating system on it. The drives are new and have nothing on them and I have the Intel Deployment Assistant. I am trying to install Red Hat onto the system and it doesn't see any usable drives. After checking BIOS and connections, I've concluded that I am missing the on-board SAS controller drivers (at least this is what I am lead to believe). I have tried downloading an update on the IDA system update via internet but it comes up with nothing. Am I missing something? Are there steps I haven't tried? Or am I clearly looking in the wrong direction? If somebody can help that would be fantastic.

Edit: I have the cables (minisas to minisas) connected to the board SCUs. I power on the machines and none of the drives initialize (I can get 4 drives to initialize when connected to the HBA in the server but I cannot see them when attempting to install OS). There is an RKSATA8 RAID C600 Upgrade key installed in the device. No OS and all drives are good. I have been trying to find drivers and firmwares that may help resolve the issue but I have not been successful. The board is S2600GL.

RS2MB044 beeps, but there is no error apparent

Hello,

I have the following setup (this is a test system, with no production data, so data loss is NOT a concern)

Intel DG45ID mainboard,

Intel RS2MB044 RAID controller,

-- 1x OCZ Vertex 2 SSD on a 8087-to-4xSATA cable on the internal port

-- RES2SV240 expander connected by 8088-to-8087 cable to the external port

     -- 16x WD Red 30EFRX 3TB drives connected to RES2SV240 by 4x 8087-to-4-SATA cables.

Logically, the system is set up with two identical RAID6s combining 8x WD Red drives per array, plus one RAID0 for SSD, providing readonly CacheCade.

The immediate problem is that the RAID controller starts beeping every reboot, something like one second on then one second off. When the system starts up, and Windows boots, I have to use RAID Web Console 2 to silence the alarm. However, there is no readily identifiable problem with the controller. RAID Web Console 2 lists "Controller condition optimal", "BBU optimal", All drives "Online", and 2x RAID6 arrays "Optimal". Also, no background tasks are running, no rebuild or whatever.

How do I identify what is the problem it beeps about?

Intel Serverboard S1200BT Wake on Time possibilities?

$

S1200BT
Hello Community,

does anyone of you have the S1200BT and can confirm to me that this Board does not have Wake on Time?

The Bios we have is from 12/05/2012. There is one newer Bios from 12/2012 but we don´t think that this major feature got into Bios in such short time.

Why does Intel not have Wake on Time?. Our 7 Year old Serverboard have it. Does Intel think any Server must be on all the time?

We have used that feature every day and switched the Server on at a given time.

Do we really have to use a power-supply with time function to switch the server on?

We can remotly switch the server on, but than another computer has to be on all the time...

Does anyone of you have the same problem and have resolved it?

Thank you very much

ss4000-e raid failed after single disk replacement

Hello,

i have a ss4000-e running a raid10 on which one disk was about to fail.

Its led turned yellow, i rebooted the unit and after some hours it was fine again and the led was green.

Since it was some years running and last year i replaced another disk who failed, today i decided to

change all disks starting with that which recently failed.

So i replaced that disk ONLY and rebooted the unit.

Now, the worst is that it sees ALL disks as NEW !!..

And also putting the old disk in place of the new one, results in the "Disk changed" notify screen

on which all disks, although all serials numbers corresponds to the old disks and all are into their

correct slots (i replaced just one disk), are seen as NEW.

How can i bring my original configuration (and VERY hopefully) my datas back?

Many thanks for support.

SC5650UP and S3420GP Full/Min Alternating Fan Speed Problem at system idle

I have a S3420GP board and SC5650 server chassis.  After upgrading to the latest BIOS in order to support over 2TB hard drives, at system idle my system fans now alternate between full speed and minimum speed, with no speed variations in between.  (Before the BIOS upgrade, they worked as expected based on work load).  The SEL does not show any fan failures that would justify running full speed.  Any guidance here would be appreciated.

S5000VSA Need Help Restoring RAID Array after Configuration Cleared

$

I need assistance in trying to reconnect/recreate my RAID arrays on an Exchange Server. I think what I need most is to find out from the existing HDDs (undamaged) what the size and stripe configurations are so that I can exactly recreate the arrays without Initializing the arrays, and hope that I can then boot the machine.

S5000VSA / S5000VSASATA. Does contain the RAID-5 key/dongle, but RAID-5 not in use, only using RAID-1 feature.

The original arrays were built circa 2008. Port 0 has Disk "A" -- Port 1 has a DVD -- Port 2 has Disk "B". Together Port 0 and 2 are RAID-1 Array 0. Port 3 is vacant. Port 4 has Disk "C" -- Port 5 has Disk "D". Together these are RAID-1 Array 1. Array 0 (C: Drive) contains Windows 2003 Server (64-bit) OS and MS Exchange, etc. Array 1 is a "data disk" and the Exchange Information Stores are on Array 1 (D: Drive).

The arrays started out on 4 identical 500GB HDDs. Over the years, each of these HDDs was, individually, replaced when they failed, by removing the old drive, inserting the new drive into a vacant port, and adding it as a Hot Spare, at which point of course the Rebuild would begin. As we know, the replacement disk had to be as big or bigger than the failed drive. Over time, with replacements, the original drive partitions have remained the same but the disks are now A=750GB and B,C,D=1TB drives. So, I have a partition that is smaller than the physical drive it rests on.

Does anyone know how I can examine Disks A and C to find out the correct parameters to specify when I try to recreate the logical disks ? I think I need the EXACT Size in MB and the Stripe size to use. As I understand it, if I can get these right, save the Configuration, then reboot, the controller should recognize correctly the disks/arrays and let me boot as per normal processes.

The drives themselves are, as far as I know, undamaged. The server board somehow erased its knowledge of the arrays during a reboot when I was trying to add a 5th HDD to the system.

Mainly I need to attempt to put the array back in touch with the motherboard's knowledge of the LDs.

Also, would appreciate any recommendations on what software to use to clone Disks A,B,C,D onto E,F,G,H and experiment with cloned versions not the original disks.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

RAID 1 S5520HC with HDs SATAIII

Hi!!

My server have a  S5520HC mother board  with Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II.

The manual of the S5520HC mother board sais as follows:

'The Intel® Server Board S5520HC/S5500HCV provide an embedded SATA controller that supports both 1.5

Gbps and 3.0 Gbps data transfer rates.'

So in theory  my motherboard don´t support SATA III. I have 2 news discks SATA III to configure a RAID 1 hardware RAID with the S5520HC mother board.

I know that SATA III HDs are compatible with SATA II mother boards, but I´m worry about the possible incompatibility of the SATA III HDs with the

RAID SATA controller Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II.

Do you think that I will have any problem configuring  the hardware RAID 1 in the S5520HC mother board with SATA III (6Gbps) HDs?

Thanks so much!!!!

Server board S5000PSLSASR and raid issue

$

I have a server with the board S5000PSLSASR, that is currently deployed.  I checked the Raid Web Console, and it shows my array, but under Physical in lists 4 copies of the same bad drive, it says "Slot 0, SATA, 0 Bytes, Failed." on 4 drives.  It is a raid 5 with 4 500gb drives.

Is anyone familiar enough with the console to tell me what's really going on?  I don't want to restart and go into the raid setup, in case the server doesn't come back up.  Can I just replace the drive in slot 0 while its on?

Also, does anyone know if the R at the end of my board's model number means refurbished?  I thought this board was brand new when I bought it.

Thanks in advance!

I have a sp3420gplc with 6 Seagate 7200 1TB drives in raid 5 with Hotspare. I am using the onboard matrix raid. I have server 2008 r2 installed. If I copy a 2Gb file from the desktop to another folder on the desktop data transfer speeds is like 1MB /s. I'm using. Driver version 11.6.0.1030 for the matrix raid. Here are the firmware versions.

--------------------------------------

BIOS Version....... S3420GP.86B.01.00.0051
BMC Firmware Version:
   Op Code....... 01.25
   PIA.............. 01.25
   Boot Code.............. 00.22
ME Firmware Version:
   Boot Code: NOT SUPPORTED
HSC Firmware Version:
   Boot Code: 2.17
SDR Version:
   SDR version: SDR Package 0.18

I think this issue is related to server 2008 cause I have 4 other servers that are Intel with the same OS and the speeds are a little better but not by much.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know I have been troubleshooting this for a while now.

SRCSAS18E re: drive lights

Hello all: We have a server running an SRCSAS18E board(or its onboard, not sure)

We had our boot drive mirror fail. I am going to be swapping out the failed drive in hopes that it will rebuild.

My actual question is related to some of the other drives in the server  2 of the 6 working drive lights are solid green while the others flash normally. i'm not sure if the solid green started after the drive failure or not.

Any ideas as to what the solid drive lights mean? they are both solid green which is better than Red. The server has not been rebooted.

I have a remote server running an S1200BTS board.  I'm getting some odd problems, which I think may be BIOS related.  How can I get the current BIOS version remotely through Windows Server 2008, and can I update the BIOS remotely through Windows, or do I need to send someone onsite to do it?

Thanks.

Trouble shooting for Intel Active System Console

Hi,

My customer would like to notify hardware events by using Intel Active System Console(ASC).

He configured [Configuration] - [Basic Email] and [Advanced Email] in ASC.

And he tested notify the event removing power supply unit(lost PS redundancy).

However an appliance did not send notfication email to the customer.

Another appliance late and sent the email.

The customer has two question about ASC.

Q1. How often does ASC watch hardware?

I got some logs from appliance which stored under /var/log/asc/.

services.log recorded the following event.

Thu Jul 25 19:15:01 JST 2013 :- Sanity check on required ASC services ---

ascpolicy                        : DEAD

Restarting ascpolicy...

Thu Jul 25 19:18:01 JST 2013 :- Sanity check on required ASC services ---

ascpolicy                        : OK

It seems to check ASC services everey 3 minutes. Is it interval of checking for system status?

If not, how often frequency is it?

Q2. How the customer can solve or investigate the issue?

The customer wants to solve the problem that an email is not transmitted when the hardware issue is occured.

I don't know what kind of information we should collect to investigate trouble of ASC.

The customer captured tcpdump while he is testing but any smtp packets did not tranmitted when he removed power supply unit.

I already got some logs from under /var/log/asc/. If any other step to investigate this issue please let me know.

Hi

I have some questions about the Intel Server Board S1200KPR and i hope somebody can help me.

I build a new Homeserver with the following components

- Intel E3-1265Lv2

- Intel S1200KPR

- OS: Windows Hyper-V 2012 Core

I would like to create RAID Arrays for my data. One RAID1 Array and One RAID5 Array.

1. In the Download section for this board is a donwload called "Intel RAID Web Console 2". This is the same Software which is use with Intel RAID Controllers. Can i use this Software to connect  remotely to the OnBoard RAID Controller or is it only for use with Intel RAID Controller in PCIe Slots?

2. Can i use a Intel RAID Controller (for example RT3WB080) designed for Intel Xeon E5 Prosessors with this board? I cannot find any Informations if this combinations is compatible.

3. Anyone use this board with a RAID Controller? Which one?

Kind regards

Hello Everybody,

I have several servers on platform R2224GZ4GCSAS.

After power on the BMC sensor value "Physical Scrty" is 0x0000 and it's Ok. But after 30-60 minutes it switches to 0x0010. It cause warning in ESXi "System unplugged". Does anybody know how to reset this value to 0x0000 and why it switches to 0x0010 ?

NOTE: if I unplug all LAN cables it resets to 0x0000. It's funny but I can't use server without LAN connection. :-)

Unable to boot to IDA v5 on S2600CP

I've been pulling out my hair trying to solve this, a new S2600CP Board, dual Xeon E5-2630s, is unable to boot to the IDA v5. I've tried several different types of media, including USB boot, and several copies of the disc, however I always receive a "Unable to access boot device" error.

So far I've replaced RAM (Currently using 16GB of Crucial workstation RAM), both processors (tried with a single processor as well), multiple boards (fully up-to-date firmware), every SATA configuration, and several different methods of booting to the IDA.

I'm at complete loss here.

FALSASMP Midplane - Couple Questions

$

Hello,

I apologize if any information is incorrect or if I sound like an idiot beforehand. Anyway, I have a FALSASMP midplane sitting inside of an Intel SR2500 2u case which is paired with an Intel S5000XAL motherboard. This machine has been built from scratch and is running perfectly, however, I am unable to set up a HW (Hardware) RAID using my new FALSASMP Active Midplane.

When I first purchased the midplane, I was under the assumption and the sway of an Intel tech that I would not require the AXXMINIDIMM or the AXXRAK18E (Raid Activation Key) in order to build a RAID 10 array. I did not purchase these so I am currently running the FALSASMP without a RAK or MINIDIMM and it's working fine as a pass-through device (IT mode if I am correct). However, I want it to run in IR mode, and I can't seem to figure out why I can't get it into this mode. My questions are listed below, I did a ton of research online about this but I was unable to find much. Many thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

1.) The firmware on the FALSASMP is the 1.11 - IT, I found what I believe is a firmware update at the link below. I did download and make an attempt to flash the firmware, but when using the EFI shell to run the script I get an error stating "No LSI adapters found! Limited Command Set Available! SASFlash Version is: 1.20.00.00." Is there something I am missing here? Do I need to update the firmware to the 1.20 version on the midplane?

Firmware downloaded:

Download Center

2.) Do I require the AXXRAK18E and the AXXMINIDIMM?

Extra Notes:

- No this is NOT the FALSASMP2 midplane

- No warranty available

- I want use this box for an ESXi setup, so a SW (Software) RAID is not an option. (Unless someone knows a way around this, please let me know).

- I am not sure on the type of back-plane being used (what model) but if it's required, I can find it. I do know it's SATA and I have 4 1TB sata drives installed.

- Yes I understand these parts are old, but what was originally going to be a developer's play house turned into a more serious build (Won't be production but will house several very useful business tools).

ARK | Intel® RAID Activation Key AXXRAK18E

ARK | 128MB Mini DIMM Registered DDR2 for RAID Cache AXXMINIDIMM

Once again, any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!
