Hi,
This issue was originally posted by me on 9/12/17. This is the lead in from that same message.
'Here is what we are seeing. For no reason at all that we can see the fans while throttle up to high speed and remain "screaming" until the server is restarted. The problem is random but does happen on a regular basis. The system has all the latest firmware, it is running 32GB DDR4 2133 RAM E3-1230V6 (similar problems with 1230V5). L1 support tells me it is a memory issue because the memory isn't Intel validated. '
Since then I have managed to locate memory from Kingston that is Intel validated. Here is the kit part # from Kingston KVR24E17D8K2/32I and it checks out.
The memory in the server is now Intel validated and the problem STILL EXISTS. No better, no worse. The system has the latest firmware installed. 03.01.0021 dated 7/18/17. The front panel LEDs indicate no problems, all green and steady, the dual PSUs indicate no apparent issues there either. One PSU 0 has a green blinking LED and PSU 1 has a steady green LED. In short there are no amber or red LEDs anywhere on that system. All appear to be normal, yet the fans throttle up and stay in that state until the server is re-booted.
This problem has been going on since 8/1/17 and we need to come to some sort of resolution. Another point is the server runs fine. Not freeze up, no other obvious issue other than screaming fans.
To date, I have has 2 support cases on this problem for the same server. One has been closed with no solution and the other case is still active. My support tech on case #2 has been diligent on this so far, but still no concrete ideas. I did send a sysinfo log to support and I am waiting for a response. (I still have a copy of the sysinfo and SEL logs)
I am at a point where this is now becoming critical. My customer's patience is wearing thin and I don't blame them. In my 30 years as a system & server builder I have never seen a support issue like this last this long.
At this point I need L2 help. I requested L2 help in the string of messages from 9/12/17 and it was ignored!!!!
Not a good way to treat a long term ITP as myself, I need help!!!!
